The Halo Collar app is the interface between you and your dog’s Halo Collar. Every feature of the Halo system, from GPS fence creation to feedback customization to dog activity tracking, is managed through the app. It is available for iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play) and requires an active Pack Membership Plan to operate.

The app is designed around a central element called the Pet Card, which displays your dog’s real-time safety status, GPS signal level, collar connection type, fence and beacon proximity, and battery level at a glance. From the Pet Card, you can access activity tracking charts, feedback settings, fence management, and the Cesar Millan training program. For households with multiple dogs, all collars are managed from a single account — with fences that can be individually enabled or disabled per dog.

The Halo App consolidates fence management, GPS tracking, feedback configuration, activity monitoring, training, and live support into a single interface. Here is what each capability does and how it works.

Create and Manage All Fences and Beacons

The Halo App is where you build every GPS fence your dog will use. Search an address or zoom in on the map, and the app creates a fence with one tap based on property lines and Halo Fence guidelines. Alternatively, you can draw a custom polygon by placing fence posts manually. You can save unlimited fences, and each fence can be individually edited, paused, reshaped, or re-enabled at any time without affecting other saved boundaries. Fences are automatically downloaded to the collar and stored permanently in its onboard memory — so they remain active even without Wi-Fi or cellular connection. The app also manages Halo Beacons: set a Zone Beacon to Keep-Away mode (to create indoor boundaries near a trash can, doorway, or stairway) or Ignore Fences mode (to create a portable safe zone where fence feedback is suppressed). The Remote Beacon provides one-button manual feedback and recall up to 50 meters without the app. With creation, editing, per-dog controls, and one-tap property-line generation, the Halo App is the most comprehensive dog fence app available.

Real-Time GPS Location Tracking

The My Map screen in the Halo App shows your dog’s live position on a satellite map. The app receives up to 4 GPS location updates per second from the collar, depending on connection type. When connected via Bluetooth, location updates stream continuously and directly from the collar to your phone. The Pet Card displays a “Updating Live” indicator when the app is actively receiving location data, along with the current GPS signal level and which connection type is in use. You are immediately notified via push notification if a fence is approached, and live in-app tracking continues to show your dog’s position so you can monitor their return in real time. The Halo App functions as a real-time dog tracking app — combining live GPS location, activity data, and safety status in a single interface.

Customizable Feedback Settings

Every feedback type is configurable through the Halo App’s Feedback Settings, accessible by swiping up on the Pet Card. The Halo Collar provides six types of feedback: three prevention (Warning, Boundary, Emergency) and three encouragement (Whistle, Good Dog, Go Home). For each type, you independently choose the cue— sound, vibration, or optional static — and set the intensity. Sound options include Cesar Millan’s voice commands, his signature “TSCH” sound, and standard tones. Static creates a gentle “tap on the shoulder” sensation and is never required. The app also provides an Instant Feedback screen where you can send any prevention or encouragement cue to the collar manually with a single tap — delivered via Bluetooth or over the internet.

Multi-Dog Support from One Account

Each dog needs their own Halo Collar, but all dogs are managed through one account in the Halo App. Every collar on your account can use all fences that have been created, and fences can be individually turned on or off for each dog without affecting the other dogs on your account. This means you can give one dog access to the full yard while restricting another to a smaller area — using the same fence boundaries with different per-dog settings. Feedback settings are also independent per collar: if one dog responds to tone-only feedback and another needs vibration, each collar is configured separately through its own Pet Card.

Automatic Protection Without Your Phone

The Halo Collar operates autonomously. Once fences are downloaded to the collar and feedback settings are configured, the collar enforces boundaries and delivers prevention and encouragement feedback in real time without needing your phone, Wi-Fi, or cellular connection. The collar’s onboard GPS processor calculates your dog’s position 20 times per second and determines when feedback is needed based on proximity, direction of movement, and fence boundaries stored in its memory. The app is required to set up and configure the system, receive notifications, view live tracking, and send manual feedback. But the core safety function, keeping your dog inside their boundaries, works independently of the app. This is a fundamental difference from GPS trackers, which alert you when your dog enters or leaves a zone but do not actively prevent them from crossing a boundary.

In-App Customer Support from Halo Experts

The Halo App includes built-in access to Halo’s live customer support team through a feature called the Halo Dog Park. Navigate to Settings → Support → Halo Dog Park (or visit dogpark.halocollar.com) to connect with a Halo expert via live video-based support. The in-house team of experts is available 7 days a week and can help with collar setup, training guidance, firmware updates, troubleshooting, and plan management. In addition to live support, the app integrates the full Halo Help Center article library, so you can search for answers without leaving the app.

App Walkthrough

What You See When You Open the Halo App

The following walkthrough describes the key screens and how they connect to your dog’s safety. Each screen is designed so the most critical information is visible immediately, with deeper settings accessible by swiping or tapping.

My Map

The default screen when you open the app. It displays a satellite map centered on your dog’s last known location, with fence boundaries overlaid in green. Each dog appears as a pin on the map. Tap a dog’s pin to open their Pet Card. You can also refresh your dog’s location on demand by tapping the Refresh button. If multiple dogs are on your account, all appear simultaneously on the map with individual pins.

Pet Card

The Pet Card is the central hub for each dog. It displays the dog’s current safety status, the GPS signal level, the connection type in use (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or Cellular), which fence or beacon the dog is near, and the collar’s battery level. The “Updating Live” indicator confirms that the app is receiving real-time data. Swipe up on the Pet Card to access Feedback Settings, Fence Controls, and the Activity Tracking section.

Fence Management

From the Fences section, you can create new GPS fences, edit existing ones, pause or enable boundaries, and manage Halo Beacons. One-tap fence creation generates boundaries based on property lines. Manual creation lets you place fence posts as polygon vertices. Each fence shows its name, status (active, paused), and which dogs have that fence enabled. Fences sync automatically to all connected collars.

Feedback Settings

Accessible by swiping up on the Pet Card and tapping Feedback Settings. Here you configure each of the six feedback types independently. For each type (Warning, Boundary, Emergency, Whistle, Good Dog, Go Home), select the modality (sound, vibration, or static) and set the intensity level. Cesar Millan’s voice commands and TSCH sound are available as built-in options. Changes are synced to the collar immediately when connected.

Activity & Health Tracking

The tracking section, which is accessible from the Pet Card via “View More”, doubles as a dog activity tracker, displaying historical charts and graphs for: Preventions (how many Warning, Boundary, and Emergency events occurred), distance walked (GPS-calculated total distance), walk count (increments when you leave the fence and travel more than 500 feet), and activity breakdown (time spent active, resting, or in the car). Data is viewable by day or narrowed down to each hour. Silver and Gold plans include enhanced activity tracking with weekly and monthly reports. All members also have access to the Walk feature, which tracks steps, distance, speed, and a “Freedom” metric that measures how much your dog explored beyond your path.

Training

Tap the “Learn” icon at the bottom of the app screen to access Cesar Millan’s in app training program. Each lesson includes reading materials and instructional videos. The program is structured in four phases: Setup, Introducing the Collar, Indoor Training (using Beacons), and Outdoor Training (using GPS Fences). The training section is accessible at any time and can be revisited as needed. It can only be accessed through the Halo App — not through a web browser.

Notifications

The Notifications tab (bottom of the app screen) collects all alerts from your collar: fence breach alerts, prevention feedback events, battery low warnings, firmware update notifications, and GPS initialization reminders. Unread notifications are indicated by a blue dot. Each notification includes a timestamp so you can review exactly when an event occurred — which may differ from when your phone received the push notification, depending on cellular connection. You can mark all as read or clear all from the three-dot menu.

Support (Halo Dog Park)

Navigate to Settings → Support to access the Halo Dog Park, where you can connect with a live Halo expert via video-based support. The in-app Help Center is also accessible from this section, providing searchable articles covering every aspect of the collar and app. Support is available 7 days a week.

Daily Activity Monitoring

The Activity and Tracking charts in the app help you understand your dog’s day: how much time they spent active, resting, or in the car; how far they walked; and how many prevention feedback events occurred. Get Started with the Halo App in 3 Steps

Step 01: Download and Pair

Download the Halo App from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Create your account, select your Pack Membership Plan, and pair your Halo Collar via Bluetooth. The app will guide you through initial collar setup, including firmware updates and GPS calibration.

Step 02: Create Your First Fence

Navigate to the Fences section and tap “Create New Fence.” Search an address or zoom in on the map, then use one-tap creation to snap the fence to your property lines — or draw a custom polygon manually. The fence syncs to the collar automatically. Set each fence as active, paused, or per-dog enabled.

Step 03: Configure Feedback and Begin Training

Open the Pet Card, swipe up, and tap Feedback Settings. Configure each of the six feedback types to the modality and intensity that works for your dog. Then tap the Learn icon to start Cesar Millan’s program. Complete the training before leaving your dog unsupervised with any boundary.
